VOR Examples

Examples are where VOR becomes easy to picture. Each one shows the same structure — Verify, Orient, Respond, Ask, Confirm — applied to a real moment so you can borrow the pattern and make it your own.

These are written to scan quickly. For practice, pick one example and run it once in a familiar place first.

Example: Airport Arrival (Curb → Correct Entry Point)

Goal: move from curbside uncertainty to a confirmed entry point and the correct service counter with clear handoff closure.

Verify

  • Pick one steady sound cue (sliding doors, baggage carts, announcement rhythm).
  • Find one stable boundary line you can track (curb edge, tactile paving, a wall line, railing).

Orient

  • Name the stage: “I’m at curbside, moving to the main entrance.”
  • Name the next confirmed stage: “I need the correct door, then the correct counter.”

Respond

  • Primary move: follow the boundary line toward the doors.
  • Backup: stop at a stable landmark (pillar/railing) and request a guided handoff.
  • Confirmation check: your hand meets the door frame or the counter edge at the correct location.

Ask Script (Staff or Public)

“Hi — I have low vision. Could you guide me to the correct entrance and complete the handoff by placing my hand on the door frame?”

If you’re already inside: “Could you guide me to the correct service counter and place my hand on the counter edge so I know I’m at the right spot?”

Confirm

Confirmation line: “Please say: ‘You are now at the correct entrance/counter.’”

If the environment spikes, run Calm-Recovery for 20 seconds, then repeat the Ask with the same confirmation line.

Hotel Check-In (finding the desk + completing the handoff)

Goal: reach the correct counter, complete check-in, and leave with one clear next action.

  • Verify: “I’m inside the lobby and not oriented to the desk.”
  • Orient: “I need the check-in counter and the next step.”
  • Respond: “Can you guide me to the front desk and tell me when we arrive at the start of the line?”
  • Confirm: “Great — I’m at the front desk line, and the counter is directly ahead.”
  • Reset: One breath, shoulders down, ask the next question.

Ask Scripts:

  • “Hi — is this the check-in desk, and am I at the start of the line?”
  • “What is the next step after check-in: keys, elevator direction, or bell assistance?”

Gate Change (re-route with one clean question)

Goal: turn a surprise into one clear path: new gate, new route, clean confirmation.

  • Verify: “My gate changed and I need the correct new location.”
  • Orient: “I need the right desk or agent who can confirm it.”
  • Respond: “Can you guide me to the correct gate and describe the path as we walk?”
  • Confirm: “We’re going to Gate [number] and I’ll be placed at the seating row nearest the boarding lane.”
  • Reset: One breath, listen for boarding.

Ask Scripts:

  • “Which gate is active right now for [flight]?”
  • “Where is the boarding lane relative to where you’re placing me?”

Curb Pickup (making the meeting point unmissable)

Goal: arrive at the correct pickup zone with a landmark you can reference easily.

  • Verify: “I’m outside and I need the correct pickup zone.”
  • Orient: “I need the official location plus one reliable landmark.”
  • Respond: “Can you guide me to the pickup point and confirm the exact landmark next to me?”
  • Confirm: “I’m at Door [number], next to [landmark], and this is the correct pickup zone.”
  • Reset: One breath, text/call with the landmark.

Ask Scripts:

  • “Which door number is this, and what sign is closest?”
  • “If the driver calls, what exact words should I say so they find me fast?”
