VOR Quickstart is the “use it right now” version of the method. It gives you a fast sequence you can run anywhere — airport, hotel, sidewalk, lobby — using sensory cues, clear stages, and a confirmation check so the next step is real, not assumed.
If you only read one thing on this page, read the Run VOR in 20 Seconds card. Everything else helps you run it with steadiness and consistency.
Quickstart Triggers
- You’re moving, but you can’t describe what stage you’re in.
- You reached a desk, doorway, or intersection and the next step isn’t confirmed.
- The environment is loud, fast, or crowded and you want clarity back.
- Assistance is late, unclear, or a handoff ended without closure.
- You feel rushed — even if nobody is rushing you.
When a trigger hits, you don’t need a bigger plan. You need one confirmed next step. That’s what VOR is for.
Calm-Recovery
Calm-Recovery is the reset that keeps VOR usable. It brings your attention back to signal clarity — so you can hear, feel, and choose the next step cleanly.
Run Calm-Recovery when the environment spikes: crowds compress, announcements overlap, you feel hurried, assistance is delayed, or your thinking feels scattered.
- Stop and make anchor contact. Place one hand on a stable boundary: wall, seat arm, railing, counter edge, or your suitcase handle.
- Name one true thing. “I am safe. I am stopped. I have time for one clear step.”
- Breathe for 3 cycles. Inhale gently, exhale longer than you inhale.
- Re-open one sense. Choose one cue: a steady sound, a floor texture, airflow, or the edge of a doorway.
- Return to VOR. Run Verify→ Orient → Respond again from this steadier place.
A tiny rule that works: Reset first, then Ask. Calm-Recovery makes your Ask Script clearer and your handoff more complete.
Run VOR in 20 Seconds
“I’m at the airport entrance and I’m not oriented yet.”
Orient: Choose one “next-best” target.
“I’m looking for the right line or the right staff person.”
Respond: Ask one clean question that gets you moving.
“Hi — can you guide me to the correct line for check-in?”
Confirm: Repeat the result back in one sentence.
“Great — we’re going to the Delta check-in line, and you’ll place me at the start.”
Reset (10 seconds): Exhale once, relax your shoulders, and start the next move.
Three fast Ask Scripts
- Staff check: “Hi — are you a staff member who can help with directions?”
- Route ask: “Can you guide me to [place] and describe the path as we go?”
- Placement confirm: “Where exactly are you placing me — and what’s directly in front of me?”
